Meet The Board
-

Bob Carey Grieve - Chairman
Throughout my career, I have consistently gravitated towards roles that involve advocacy, leadership and creating opportunities for others. As Team Leader of Neighbourhood Hubs at Wyndham City Council, and through additional responsibilities as a Mental Health First Aid Officer, Health and Safety Representative, Family Violence Contact Officer and Wynability Advocate, I have seen first-hand how much difference compassionate leadership and strong community organisations make in people's lives. Those experiences have reinforced my belief that meaningful change happens when people are prepared to step forward, listen, advocate and create spaces where everyone feels they belong.
-

Dionne Heafield - Vice Chair
Previously having focused on supporting the communities that shaped my children’s lives, I now have the time and passion to contribute to organisations that align with my values. Collaborative, curious and respectful, I bring a sense of humour, an open mind, and the confidence to ask the tough questions.
-

Sue Botrell - Secretary
I moved to the area in 2019 to build my house and moved here permanently in 2022. I am transitioning to retirement but am keen to continue to use the skills I have developed over my career I think BNH offers a great service to the community through both courses and material support to those in need. I would like to support that effort through initiatives such as a neighbourhood advice service to provide initial advice and referrals for further assistance, assistance with government bureaucracy, and support for vulnerable groups.
-
Ros Gatt - Treasurer
I have spent many years building a business, strong connections and meaningful relationships within our community. Throughout that time, I have been committed to providing a safe and welcoming space where people can come together, connect and feel a genuine sense of belonging.
BNH provides that same vital sense of safety, connection and community for so many people. I feel deeply connected to the role BNH plays within our community and am committed to ensuring that it continues to provide essential services, facilities and opportunities for people well into the future.

Symone Barry - Member
I am a country girl at heart. Born in Northern Victoria, I was dropped into Werribee in the 1970’s. The experience of the Western suburbs has never left me. I am extremely grateful that fate allowed me the opportunity to experience the immense societal and cultural changes that impacted Australia during the 1970’s..
I returned to a rural setting in 1985. Myrniong has been my home, both spiritually and physically.
My paid career has been within the library and information sector since 1982. I LOVE LIBRARIES!.
Rebuilding a sense of worth, value and purpose enabled me to apply for a role with the Moorabool Shire Libraries.
My belief in the value of libraries was renewed!
Public libraries are the ‘ great levelers’ for society. The intrinsic value of a 'space for all' is more important than ever.
I thrive upon the opportunity to provide a personal connection for others. Here too, is the value of Neighbourhood Houses.
Building connections with communities, skills development and recreational opportunities are vital.
Public Libraries and Neighbourhood houses are kindred spirits.
I hope I can assist in keeping the spirit of ‘Community learning’ alive and valid as I represent Ballan Neighbourhood House as a board member.
I am a founding member of Ballan and District Branch of the Country Women’s Association Vic. Inc. and I was also a member of the 'working group' which first established this Community aka Neighbourhood House. -

Jane Gardner - Member
Jane Gardner lives in Gordon with her husband and two young adult sons, where she is surrounded by beautiful bush, wildlife and her much-loved extended community.
Jane works part-time at Moorabool Shire Council as a Best Start Community Facilitator. She is also involved in many community groups and activities. Jane has been playing in the Gordon Ukestra since its inception and was a founding member (15 years ago!) of the Gordon & District Book Group.
In addition, together with other local creatives, Jane helped open the Bar Room Gallery, attached to Gordon’s at Gordon Café in Gordon. She also regularly exhibits her nature art at the Ballan Art Space and other art galleries around the district. Jane’s creativity stems from her belief that we all see things differently. Diversity is key!
Jane joined the board of the Ballan Neighborhood House, thanks to her deep love of community and her ongoing desire to support and strengthen wellbeing and connection in us all.
